Members of Busselton Runners Club have been training hard ahead of this weekend’s City to Surf in Busselton.

Record numbers are expected to hit the streets on Sunday for the 4km or 12km run, walk or wheelchair event which raises funds for Activ.

Busselton Runners Club president Lee Paine said about 10 members were entering and most were tackling the 12km distance.

“We’ve been doing some training … getting people to lengthen their distance so that they have a bit of distance under their belts, ” she said. “I’ve never done the Busselton one before but I hear it’s well organised.

“It’s nice to run with people who have the same goals in mind and not have to worry about traffic.

“You just have to think about running.”

Ms Paine said from the club’s point of view the City to Surf was a win-win because it combined the enjoyment of running with raising money for a worthy cause.

“Whether you’re out there to break a personal best or just for fun it doesn’t matter, ” she said.

“The competitive ones will be up the front and the others can just mosey along. I’d imagine at least two or three of our members will be in the top 20 or 30.”

Road closures will be in place from 7-11am on Sunday, with residents required to use designated routes at various times.
