A Busselton teacher has won a major education award.

Geographe Primary School teacher Ana Nail has been named the WA Premier’s Primary Teacher of the Year.

Visual arts teacher Mrs Nail masterminded the creation of an outdoor classroom for students with special needs.

Premier Colin Barnett said it was important to honour and reward teachers and other school staff.

“We want the very best people teaching our children - the future of Western Australia,” he said.

Education Minister Peter Collier said with finalists and winners from country schools, metropolitan schools, large schools and small schools, it was clear excellence abounds in WA.

“The stories behind these people and schools are as diverse as our communities,” he said.

“They showcase common themes of commitment, endeavour and achievement.”
