Busselton's war memorial will be surrounded by handmade poppies this week to pay homage to loved ones who have served in wars.

The tribute will tie in with Remembrance Day commemorations, with residents pitching in to create the flowers in recent months.

Busselton RSL sub-branch president Bob Wood said he was looking forward to the turnout for Remembrance Day and seeing the final result of the Poppy Project.

Mr Wood said while the day marked the end of World War I, it was important to remember there were Australians deployed overseas even today.

"To me, the saddest thing of the whole was it has never stopped the guns," he said.

"When we stand together on Remembrance Day, we think of our own mates."

Mr Wood said the day was a time to reflect on the results of conflicts and how they affected those who served and their families.

"It's not just the friendships and camaraderie that was forged, but also the price paid later by families," he said.

"There wasn't a family anywhere in Australia or community who wasn't affected (by WWI)."

The RSL will have members out in town today selling poppies, with all money raised going to support the welfare of ex-service personnel.

Remembrance Day will be marked at 11am on November 11 at the Busselton War Memorial.
