Polo's foreshore showcase
Regional polo fans are in for a treat when the popular game comes to Busselton for the first time.
The three-a-side matches will take place on the foreshore at Barnard Park on Saturday, April 27.
The City of Busselton has secured the rights to hold the first polo event in the region, backed by the Swan Valley Polo Club, who will provide horses and players including Tim Broadfoot, Matt Welsh and Nick Bowen.
“The Busselton Foreshore Polo will take place during the school holidays providing locals and visitors with a fabulous, fun and different activity that the whole family can enjoy,” Bowen said.
City events co-ordinator Shane Walsh said they were approached by the club and were working towards making it an annual event.
He said the foreshore was the perfect spot for the matches and would really showcase the area.
“We’ve never had polo games of this class down here before and this will showcase the best players from WA and a few from over East,” Mr Walsh said.
The event will suit all budgets with spectators welcomed for free in the general admission area or, for a more luxurious experience, the VIP Marquee at the Goose Cafe will serve canapes, a cocktail-style lunch and beverages.
Spectators can participate in the traditional divot stomps between games, the dash for ladies and gents and the half-time game of “postie polo”.
