Police have seized a cache of homemade weapons after a raid on a Busselton property on Wednesday morning.

About 8.30am on Wednesday police raided the home, allegedly finding a homemade rifle, sword and spear, as well as six cannabis plants and other items including a balaclava and wig.

A 40-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, carrying and possessing a prohibited weapon, failing to ensure safekeeping of a firearm, as well as a number of drug charges.

Police allege the man also had instructions on producing firearms.

Acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Mick Muldoon said the raid was part of an operation to get drugs off the streets.

“This was something we scooped up in the search warrant,” he said.

Senior Sergeant Jason Van der Ende said he was glad the homemade weapons were seized before they were used.

“I’ve never seen a homemade weapon in Busselton, a homemade firearm is unusual down here,” he said.

Sen. Sgt Van der Ende said the homemade firearm would have been dangerous, even for the operator.

“It’s illegal and a safety risk and who knows what it’s going to do,” he said.
