The Cape Care Intergenerational Playgroup meets each Monday from 9.45am to 11.15am, excluding school holidays, at retirement village Ray Village.

CapeCare occupational therapist Alex Court said it was a mutually beneficial group.

“Some of our residents love to spend time with children, either to bring back memories and also allow them to demonstrate skills (for example) caring or to accommodate for the fact that their own grandchildren may not live nearby or be able to visit often,” she said.

“Some just love the energy and joy that children have.

“Our residents can also enjoy giving tips to the mums.”

Ms Court said for the families it offered the opportunity for children to have contact with older people and it was a chance to share with the community both the care-giving and reward of parenting.
