Pigeon racer has something to crow about

Busselton Dunsborough Times

A new rivalry has emerged in the Busselton Pigeon Club between The Bronze Bullet and Guru Josh.

The Bullet, raced by Anthony “Sharminator” Sharman, and Guru Josh, from Steve Kings’ stable, are providing much entertainment.

Not since the racing season of 2008 when Mick Brennan was racing his superstar Whatta Crack against Bernie “Jumbo” Higgins’ flying machine, The Galena Goddess, have club members seen such a rivalry.

What started out as a normal sprint event early in the year where the Bullet pipped The Guru by four seconds to gain the win has now developed into a heavyweight title bout.

The Bullet also claimed bragging rights two weeks later when it won the hard Morowa (550km) event.

But as The Guru had raced the previous week for another second placing it was hard to gauge the results.

Sharman has been very vocal in claiming the best bird accolades but as King has been heard to say: “It’s a long season and he who crows last crows longest.”

King has been club champion many times and believes the best is yet to come. Sharman thinks The Bullet will catapult him into the record books.

The one thing all club members know is the next six weeks of racing will be the acid test.
