Pancake Day has a touch of gold

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Geographe Primary School is hoping its version of Shrove Tuesday on March 8 will be another big success.

“Hopefully, people remember it,” co-ordinator and chaplain Roger Westaway said, as the event follows a Labour Day public holiday.

The kitchen will be pulsating with the sound of Year 7 students, teachers and parents as they combine pancake mix, supplied by the WA Uniting Church, lemon and sugar for about 700 pancakes in time for recess.

“They will help with the shaking, cooking and serving so it’s a fun thing for the kids and has a community feel,” Mr Westaway said.

The cause has a WA flavour with gold coin donations collected for victims of the Carnarvon floods and Perth hills fires.

Mr Westaway said it was hoped students would at least raise last year’s total of $500.

“It’s about a lot of people who have a few problems at the moment and even if you’re young you can make a positive difference in the world,” he said.
