Organisers call for 'Clean-Up Busselton'

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Dunsborough Clean-Up Australia Day organisers are hoping they can draw enough volunteers to extend the campaign to Busselton.

Co-ordinator Ralph Upton said it would be the group’s fifth annual Clean-Up next weekend, after growing from six to 60 volunteers in that time.

“We started off with a few streets of Dunsborough and now we do Caves Road to Yallingup beach, we go up to Meelup, we do all the main streets of Dunsborough,” he said.

“This year we’re starting to move towards Busselton up to Wyndham Hotel. Hopefully we can get enough volunteers.”

Mr Upton said he was inspired to start a local event after seeing the “terrible” amount of trash thrown out during his walks around Dunsborough.

The Clean-Up will run from 7am to 9am on Sunday, March 10.

The rest of the nation will celebrate Clean-up Australia Day on Sunday, with the WA date changed to avoid a clash with the Labour Day long weekend.

To volunteer, call Ralph Upton on 9756 8855 or Mary Dalton on 9756 7380.
