New wildlife conservation not-for-profit making leaps in animal protection

A new not-for-profit organisation is changing the game in South West animal protection.

The recently established Geo Bay Wildlife Rescue Inc. is looking to not only protect local fauna but educate the local community to ensure the future protection of endangered species.

Currently 22 members strong, the volunteers are a well established group who have all previously worked in the wildlife or education fields.

With an overall mission to “create a community that’s aware and appreciates wildlife”, charity spokesperson Jo Harrison-Ward said early intervention is the key to success.

“To achieve our mission there’s a number of things we are doing, we have rescue and rehab but we also strongly believe in awareness and education in the schools,” she said.

“If you educate children you educate the families and parents.”

The group hopes to enter schools and teach children the importance of not only protecting endangered species in the area, but the habitat they live in.

“I’m very excited and really looking forward to supporting this group and what they stand for,” she said.

“Their unique commitment to creating such strong relationships with students and parents is the real reason I put my hand up for it.

“This is a flagship organisation and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish in the future.”
