New-look club ready for a red-hot go
Busselton Soccer Club will start the 2016 season in the red — but in a good way.
The club, which has undergone a rebrand, has changed its name to Busselton City Football Club and last night unveiled a new uniform and logo at its season launch.
Club secretary Steve Gibson said the re-branding was about modernising the club, while maintaining its history and tradition.
“The demographic for Busselton has changed and we’ve become a city and we wanted to reflect that change,” he said.
“We’re very much aware of the tradition behind the club, but we are trying to align with the way Busselton has developed and become a bit more contemporary.”
Life members, past and present players and Vasse MLA Libby Mettam attended the season launch.
Gibson said he hoped the new brand would also help develop a better relationship with junior clubs within the City of Busselton.
“We’ve put a lot of work into this and it’s good to see it all go ahead,” he said.
Gibson said the upcoming season would prove challenging, but he was confident the team would do well.
“Last year, our men’s team were the premiers and as a result we had a few players picked up by State teams,” he said.
“This year, we have some players who will have to step up and take on a leadership role and we’ll see a focus on our junior players.”
The club has established a youth trust to assist youth league players in making their step into senior soccer.
MacKillop College youth league player Will Culnane is one junior player who will make the transition to senior soccer this year.
Gibson said the club had many promising young players, who would do well.
“This season will be different for us, but we think we will improve as the season goes on, and the players we have are hard workers and have a strong commitment to the club,” he said.
Youth league players who would like to progress their game to senior soccer should apple to the Busselton City Football Club via their Facebook page.
