NBN within reach as roll-out nears completion
The NBN roll-out began in Busselton this week, with residents on Blum Boulevard in Yalyalup having the first node installed on their street.
NBN WA corporate affairs manager Philippa Perry said construction of the network in and around Busselton was expected to finish towards the end of the year.
“Residents should be able to start progressively connecting to the network from about September,” she said.
“There are approximately 14,000 premises in the Busselton area that will be able to connect to the fixed-line NBN network once construction is finished.”
“The areas to be serviced by the fixed-line roll-out in Busselton include Abbey, Bovell, Broadwater, Geographe, Marybrook, Vasse, West Busselton and Yalyalup.
Forrest MHR Nola Marino said she was excited the technology was starting to be rolled out in Busselton.
“I have worked on this project for some years and I see this as a really critical and transformative technology,” she said.
“The South West is one of the most under-serviced areas and with the NBN, businesses will have access like never before.”
A few hundred homes are already being serviced by the NBN fixed wireless service, including homes in Ambergate, West Busselton and Port Geographe.
Ms Perry said several factors would determine the sequence of the roll-out, but everyone would eventually be serviced.
“Ultimately though, no one will miss out and the overall aim is to get to all Australian premises as quickly and cost effectively as possible,” she said.
