Mettam backs Busselton for airport name

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam has thrown her support behind the inclusion of Busselton in the name for the expanded regional airport.

Ms Mettam said she believed it was a condition of Regional Development and Lands funding that the airport name was resolved before expansion work and it was a preference to include Margaret River in the name.

She has written to Premier Colin Barnett supporting the City of Busselton's suggestion of the name Busselton Margaret River Regional Airport, passed by council earlier this month.

"According to the funding agreement attached to the cabinet approval, the State will make a decision on the name," she said.

"I appreciate the value of the Margaret River brand, however, it is important that a name is also logical and informative for visitors and locals alike.

"The City of Busselton has already hosted cruise ships into Geographe Bay over the last 12 months and the feedback that I had received from tourists on these ships was the promotional material which suggested they had arrived in Margaret River was confusing."
