Meals need drivers

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Busselton Meals on Wheels is putting out a call for new drivers to help the community group continue to deliver food to aged and disabled people in the district.

The group has functioned since 1964 and enables those in need to receive a daily meal until such time as they no longer require help.

Committee vice-president Dot Morris said over the years many people had given freely of their time to devote around two hours a fortnight to deliver meals.

“A number of our elderly drivers now find the time has come for them to retire from this voluntary duty,” she said.

“This is leaving a gap in our roster to fulfil our task of delivering meals.

Mrs Morris said the group required willing, able drivers to help continue the service.

The group would also welcome those drivers who would be willing to fill in when a permanent driver could not attend.

Those interested in volunteering need a roadworthy car, a current driver’s licence and a heart willing to help those in need, she said.

To sign up as a volunteer, call the Kevin Cullen Medical Centre on 9754 0666 and leave a phone number.
