Georgiana Molloy Anglican School has crunched the numbers and come out well in an Australasian maths competition.

The Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads competition pitted Year 5 and 6 students from a number of countries against five different tests over 10 weeks.

The GMAS team of 30 students managed a rank of 83 out of more than 1000 schools who competed and also had one student who achieved a perfect score.

Macklin O'Reilly was the school's first student in more than six years of competing to accomplish the feat.

Macklin said he was happy with his achievement and knew early on he could have a good chance of a perfect score.

"I sort-of knew, I kept track of my score each week," he said.

Olympiad co-ordinators Fiona Pates said participation in the competition helped promote math problem solving to the students.

Last year a student was one question away from receiving the perfect score in the competition. "Over the six years we have been in the competition you can see the growth in the kids," Ms Pates said.
