Busselton Football Club will hold a fundraiser to help raise awareness of cystic fibrosis at their game against Augusta-Margaret River this weekend.

The club has joined forces with Conquer Cystic Fibrosis, with half of the money raised going to the charity and the other half going to the club.

Busselton Football Club secretary Shontelle Bowman said the cause was suggested by league captain Aidan Fraser.

“We were looking at trying to find a fundraising event and had a discussion with our captain Aidan, whose partner, Jackie, has cystic fibrosis,” she said.

“It’s close to home and more people get involved.”

The Magpies will go up against the Augusta-Margaret River Hawks to compete for the Busselton Toyota Cup as part of the event.

The club decided to hold the fundraising event at the game against the Hawks after discovering there was a young girl in Margaret River who had cystic fibrosis.

“The two clubs having someone in the same boat was worth having something involving both clubs,” Ms Bowman said.

Busselton players will be wearing specially made jerseys, which were organised by Blackchrome and sponsored by Bridgestone Select and Professionals Busselton, which will be auctioned after the game.

Guests speakers will talk about cystic fibrosis and the event will also raise awareness about organ donation.

There will also be a chance to win $1000.

A girls showcase match between GMAS and St Mary Mackillop will be held after the league game at 6:45pm.
