Another work of art has been added to the growing list of street art brightening public spaces in Busselton and Dunsborough with the completion of a new wall piece at the Geographe Leisure Centre.

Artist Louise Minty said her mandala artwork reflected the community and the environment and included key features she described as whale tails, balls, bodies of waters and swimmers.

“The artwork is about the two bodies of water in the surrounds of Busselton,” she said.

“It reflects the environment as well as the leisure centre and the role it plays in the community.

“I submitted a few colour regimes to the centre before I started; these colours were chosen because they are representative of the (City of Busselton’s) logo.”

Dunsborough and Districts Progress Association chairwoman Jacquie Happ said the artwork at the Geographe Leisure Centre was part of the StART – Street Art Project that has been funded by the Friends of the South West Community grant received in late 2015.

“We are pretty happy with the outcome of the whole project,” she said.

“Louise has received so many happy compliments and feedback as her artwork has progressed, which I think makes it all worthwhile.

“While this is a once-off celebration of art, we hope that more business owners will consider employing a local artist to brighten up their walls and contribute to the growing public artworks within the City of Busselton.”
