Mama Kin heads south for one night

Busselton Dunsborough Times

She has been described as Fremantle’s soulful raconteuse, a sorcerer of free will and individuality, a troubadour of the human condition and a performer who steals hearts.

And now she’s heading to Dunsborough.

With foot-stomping live shows that combine New Orleans-inspired bass lines with ballads of open-hearted tenderness, Mama Kin has broken free of simply being known as John Butler’s partner to forge her own enviable reputation as a musician to keep an eye on.

Recently Mama Kin cemented herself as one of the darlings of the live circuit, delivering stirring shows across the country.

Dunsborough’s Clancy’s Fish Pub is the sole regional WA stop for Mama Kin’s upcoming national tour to promote her second album The Magician’s Daughter, which was released on February 22 this year.

Following on from her critically acclaimed debut album Beat and Holler, The Magician’s Daughter, created with producer Jan Skubiszewski (Owl Eyes, The Cat Empire) at the helm, is an expansion on Mama Kin’s already lauded songwriting, production and performance.

“Music, stories, rhythm, melody and beats all conspire together to create real and tangible human effect,” Mama Kin said of The Magician’s Daughter.

“When the balance is right, when the combination flows, to me this is the ultimate alchemy.”

Mama Kin will perform at Dunsborough’s Clancy’s Fish Pub next Friday night.

Tickets are priced between $18 and $20 and available from www.clancysfishpub.com.au or by calling 9759 5034.
