Magpies survive melee
Busselton will go into this weekend’s home game against Harvey Brunswick Leschenault with a mostly unchanged side.
Coach Greg Hodson said both Busselton and Eaton came out of the tribunal on Wednesday with a “slap on the wrist” after being reported for engaging in a melee at last weekend’s match. He said he was pleased the side was likely to be unchanged.
“We need to play as a unit and the more we play together the better we are at that, ” Hodson said.
He said the pressure was on Busselton after a run of losses against the top sides in recent weeks and Collie jumping a few rungs on the ladder.
“Collie are only six points behind us now, ” Hodson said.
“It’s been a tough four weeks; we had Bunbury, South Bunbury, Eaton and Donnybrook thrown in there as well.
“The plan was to knock one of those top-three sides off and didn’t manage to do that.
“If we played to our strengths we could take any team in the competition.
“Those top-three sides obviously think Busselton aren’t a threat.”
Hodson said the side had been training hard through the week with a beach session on Monday night and a “big preparation night” on Wednesday.
“We’ve got a bit of work to do. This weekend we’ve got Harvey Brunswick at home under lights and after that we’ve got Margaret River at Margaret River, but we should be able to beat them, ” Hodson said.
“But the pressure is on.”
Hodson said last weekend’s 5.11 (41) to 13.7 (85) loss to Eaton had been “a game of two halves”.
“We put in a fair bit of a fight in the second half but we just didn’t take enough opportunities, ” he said. “We were very physical in the second half. If we kicked straight it would have been a different game.”
Hodson said Busselton had possession for enough of the game, but the scoreboard favoured Eaton.
“We didn’t have our kicking boots on, ” he said.
Busselton play Harvey Brunswick Leschenault at Bovell Park tomorrow at 6.10pm.
