The preservation of Busselton Jetty’s 151-year history has been boosted by a $50,000 grant from Lotterywest.

The funds will go towards conservation works and to upgrade interactive story-telling technology in the Jetty’s Interpretative Centre Museum.

Busselton Jetty chief executive Lisa Shreeve welcomed the grant and said it was important to share the Jetty’s history and demonstrate the passions and methods of residents who worked to save it.

“We can do this in an engaging way with new technology including touch screens, 3-D goggles and other audio-visual means,” she said.

“We would like to work with schools and community groups to uncover the best human stories about the Jetty, so everyone can hear these.”

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said the Jetty’s history was worth preserving and sharing with the next generation.

“The Jetty would not be here today without the dedication and perseverance of volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the Jetty survived,” she said.

“The Busselton Jetty contributes $10 million per year to the local economy and the best museums in the world also enhance an area’s economic and social vitality, so Lotterywest is proud to support this project.”
