Little Athletics: Jacob's jumping for joy

RACHEL CURRYBusselton Dunsborough Times

At just 11 years old, Jacob Msando is making a name for himself in the athletics world, excelling in multiple events in Little Athletics competitions throughout WA.

The talented Broadwater youngster won the gold medal for under-12 boys at the Gosnells Multi Event in Perth two weekends ago, a meet which invites country athletes to compete against their metro counterparts.

Jacob came first in the shot put, 100m and hurdles events on his way to winning the medal, and also picked up placings in the long jump and 800m.

The Vasse Primary School student has done well in a number of other events around the State, including the 2011 Country Championships, held in Bunbury in November, where he picked up four gold medals, three silvers and one bronze.

He also broke a 19-year-old country record for javelin, his favourite event.

Jacob’s results are all the more remarkable considering he does not train with a club, instead training with his father, Glenn Farrar.
