Leavers stay home

Busselton Dunsborough Times

The majority of Busselton and Dunsborough Year 12 students are choosing to spend their leavers’ week at home.

Shire of Busselton events co-ordinator Tanya Gillett said information obtained from school visits showed local students were predominantly choosing to stay in the area, representing a slight increase on last year.

“It’s good for parents because they know where they are and it’s good for them because they get to go home to their own bed and a hot meal,” she said.

“We welcome it, we’re very excited they are choosing to stay in town.”

Busselton Senior High School Year 12 student Katie Berryman said the lower cost and convenience of staying in her home town were factors in her decision.

“A few people are going to Bali and a few to Rottnest, but most people are staying,” she said.

Katie, 17, said she was looking forward to the music, the activities put on by the different community groups and the Meelup Beach day the most.

Official Leavers Week celebrations will be held between November 26 and 29.
