Lady tower ‘far from iconic’

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Busselton City Council has suggested residents opposing the demolition of the Nautical Lady tower “re-acquaint themselves” with the long-term vision of the Busselton foreshore.

The Times reported last week, a petition was circulating last week to keep the tower and supporters described it as an “iconic building”.

In a media release, the council said prohibitive costs and a lack of interest stopped them leasing the building.

They said restoring the area to public open space concurred with an original community-driven concept plan for the foreshore.

“While the … tower has been a foreshore landmark for two decades and … holds fond memories for some locals, it is far from iconic and certainly not a heritage building, ” Mayor Ian Stubbs said.
