Kids clean up
Young people are being inspired to do the right thing by making an early contribution to Clean Up Australia Day on Thursday.
Through a recurring focus on the West Street reserve beachfront every quarter, students from the Geographe Education Centre’s bush ranger cadet unit are out to conserve the area one item of rubbish at a time.
Next week’s effort aims to tie in with the 23rd Clean Up Australia Day, which has become the world’s biggest community environmental event attracting an estimated 590,000 volunteers at more than 7000 sites.
Cadet instructor Bronwen Worthington said she was proud of the students’ commitment to participating.
“We have been involved now for six years and it is all about active citizenship — teaching our young people to be responsible and sustainable leaders, ” she said.
The meeting point is Geographe Bay Yacht Club at 9am on Thursday and anyone is welcome to join the clean up until 11am.
The Clean Up Australia Day campaign covers a business clean-up day on Tuesday, schools’ day on March 1 and nationwide community clean-up on March 3.
