Join the tasty hashtag conversation

Capes region beer, wine and food producers are being urged to participate in an international social media marketing campaign next week to promote the industry.

The Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association and Geographe Bay Tourism Association initiative will target international visitors for three hours during which producers are encouraged to bombard social media with photographs linked to the hashtag #restaurantaustralia.

AMRTA marketing and communications co-ordinator Victoria Johnson said the “industry blitz” on Wednesday from noon to 3pm aimed to dominate the social media activity of the Restaurant Australia campaign with content from the Margaret River region.

“Basically, we want the local food and wine industry to photobomb the #restaurantaustralia hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for a three-hour period, ” she said.

“Images should be centred around people, produce and place, which are the core themes of the Restaurant Australia campaign.

“We want to create the world’s biggest conversation not just about Australian food and wine, but about the Margaret River Region’s food and wine.”

Aravina Estate executive chef Tony Howell, a WA ambassador for Restaurant Australia, encouraged fellow industry members to upload as many images on the day as they could to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

“We’re a destination about food and wine, ” he said.

“Social media marketing is the way to go.

“With Gourmet Escape, we’re getting our name out there a whole lot more, but more hits mean more business.”
