Two teenagers will do Busselton proud next year when they co-captain the WA under-18 indoor hockey team set to compete in Melbourne.

Chloe Carter and Anna Roberts will not only lead the under-18 team in January; they have also been chosen to play for the WA women’s open team, which will compete in Canberra next week.

The 18-year-olds have played in State teams before but Carter said their most recent achievement was extra special.

“This is the first senior State team we’ve been in so that was a pretty big thing,” she said. Carter recently tore her anterior cruciate ligament in her knee during training, so she won’t play in either tournament and will instead help with coaching.

She said indoor hockey was played on a smaller court and therefore it was a lot faster than playing on turf.

Roberts said they were excited to be chosen as captains for the younger team.

“It’s really good because the girls voted for us so they trusted us to do it,” she said.

“We’re the oldest for the 18s and we’ve got a strong team so it could be our year to do well.”
