A Dunsborough family have been reunited with their dog after he went missing in Yallingup more than a year ago.

Angie Caldow’s silky terrier went missing in June last year after being rehomed from Darwin as a rescue dog along with another terrier.

After a couple of weeks in his new home, the terrier got a fright and escaped the family home.

Friend Jenny Hanson-Birch started a campaign to help find the little dog that was known as Pete until he was fostered and the rescued pair were called Mork and Mindy.

Since June, regular sightings of the little dog had given the owners hope and Mrs Hanson-Birch has been hot on the trail through sightings reported on social media.

“We got lots of people sighting him, he became quite a legend and well known, ” Mrs Hanson-Birch said.

“He was seen between Yallingup Steiner School and Canal Rocks, and on Monday was at Smiths Beach.”

With hot chicken in hand to lure the little terrier, Mrs Hanson-Birch was able to corner the dog in an enclosed area.

“I realised it was now or never, ” she said. “In the past, as soon as he has seen lights, he has run away.”

Despite being on the run for 14 months, the terrier was looking well-fed and in great shape with no matted hair or scrapes.

Mork and Mindy have now been reunited and after a vet check, the family will bump up security and keep a close eye on the escapee.
