South West dog lovers are being encouraged to take their dogs for a walk to raise awareness for a good cause.

Busselton Greyhound Awareness will hold the Australian Awareness Greyhound Walk next week to raise the profile of the breed as pets.

Lesley Rouvray from the Busselton Greyhound Awareness group said the walk would promote greyhounds as household pets.

"A lot of people aren't aware that greyhounds make such great pets and aren't just for racing," she said.

"There are so many greyhounds who need a home and they are so kind and gentle and really easy to look after.

"We want people with all types of dogs to come along, especially greyhounds who will lead the walk."

The walk will start at 10am on Sunday June 21 at the Equinox.
