Glory soccer clinic nets lots of interest

Soccer fans were treated to a visit by Perth Glory defenders Shane Lowry and Alex Grant in Duns-borough on Tuesday as part of the club’s school holiday soccer school program.

About 50 players took part in a two-day clinic at Dunsborough Playing Fields, where they gained valuable skills and tips from the professional players and Glory clinic coaches.

Grant, who has suffered a season-ending foot injury, said the clinics gave the club the chance to connect with fan living in regional areas.

“Lots of kids don’t get the chance to come to Perth and watch the games,” he said.

“It’s good to get the kids engaged.”

Lowry said the clinics were also a way to promote the sport to younger players.

“It’s good to get the kids involved at a grass-roots level as well,” he said.

“I used to come to clinics like this when I was a kid, so it’s nice to give that back.

“But it’s just good to put a smile on the kids’ faces.”

Participants took part in a series of skills and drill techniques on the first day of the clinic, followed by games and a question-and-answer session with Lowry and Grant on the second day.

Glory’s school holiday clinics run four times a year, with the club including at least one regional leg every term.
