A subantarctic fur seal found injured at Wonnerup beach yesterday has died.

Busselton resident Rebecca Pool found the juvenile female seal lying in the shallows late on Thursday.

“She wasn’t really opening her left eye and her skull looked as though she had been run over by a boat,” Ms Pool said.

“A local fisherman caught some fish for her and she ate three while the ranger was there but it was disappointing she didn’t get more help.

“She was a long way from home and only a juvenile. I wish something could have been done for her,” Ms Pool said.

A Department of Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman said the seal had passed away overnight.

DPaW blocked off the beach and removed the young seal’s body today.
