Fire lit on Busselton Jetty
A fire was deliberately lit on the Busselton Jetty last weekend.
CCTV captured several youths trespassing after hours on Saturday, October 24.
The fire was lit at 1.30am on the Northern-most end of the jetty, directly in front of the Underwater Observatory.
Busselton Jetty chief executive Lisa Shreeve said the CCTV footage from the weekend was currently being reviewed.
"This footage captures images of several young looking people illegally trespassing in the restricted area late on Friday and Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday morning," she said.
Busselton Mayor Grant Henley said he was in disbelief at such a senseless act.
"Lighting a fire on a timber jetty is both stupid and malicious," he said.
"Fortunately, the fire did not take hold, had it done so the outcome would have been disastrous."
"This is a serious offence against one of our community's most treasured and important assets and the matter will be pursued with the police."
City of Busselton chief executive Mike Archer urged parents to take greater responsibility for the actions of their children.
