Dunsborough will host the 12th series of Tim Bonython’s Amaysim Australian Surf Movie Festival tonight, combining old-school cinema and big wave surfing.

Film director and cinematographer Bonython has been touring films since 1981, cornering the niche of theatrical, big-screen cinema and huge wave surfing.

“Each year I am searching for the greatest moments the ocean can offer,” he said.

Bonython said the festival featured stories shot at the Right in Walpole, a secret spot off the south coast of New South Wales, Bombora, Shipsterns in Tasmania and Pedra Branca, a reef 27km out to sea.

“The Right in Walpole is one of the biggest slabs on the planet, ” he said.

“It’s world-renowned for its power. There’s a wow factor like no other in surfing big waves.”

The Amaysim Australian Surf Movie Festival will screen at Clancy’s Fish Pub in Dunsborough tonight from 8pm.
