Early bird is a winner

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Dunsborough mother-of-four Rebecca Edmonds has been crowned the winner of the Busselton Jetty Swim early bird prize pack.

Mrs Edmonds, who will be competing in the 3.6km swim for the third time, received a wetsuit from Swimmer’s World in Wembley for registering for the swim before November 30 last year.

She is part of Mick Bray’s Tuff’n’Up tri squad and said the prize would definitely come in handy with her training.

“The wetsuit’s great, because we do lots of ocean swimming,” she said.

Mrs Edmonds said everyone in the squad did the swim, describing it as “just good fun.”

Travelling to Busselton three times a week to train with the group, she said she relished the chance to get in the water.

“I’ve got four kids so it’s just great to be able to train and have a break from the kids,” she said.

Ms Edmonds said she would be competing against herself as well as the rest of the squad this year, hoping to clock in under an hour to beat her best time of 1.01.

Busselton Jetty Swim committee member Steve Crenfelt said 655 entries had been received to date for the individual and team events.

“We usually receive a lot of last minute entries, and are expecting another 700 people to enter before the close of registration,” he said.

Interested participants are encouraged to sign up on www.busseltonjettyswim.org.au as soon as possible.

Entries close at midnight on February 1.
