Charity-minded cyclists streamed into Busselton on Friday for the culmination of an engineering company’s 10 hour, 254km trek to support people living with cystic fibrosis.

The 2012 annual Wood & Grieve Engineers Busselton Bike Ride attracted 44 participants, comprising staff, their family members and clients, who set off from their Perth City headquarters bound for the Queen Street office in Busselton’s central business district.

Organiser Geoff Moorcroft said the ride had generated $7800 for Cystic Fibrosis WA’s research projects and support services, chosen by one of the employees with a family member afflicted by the life-threatening genetic condition.

He said planning, fundraising and training for the ride started early in the year and the willingness of staff and clients to be involved was fantastic, especially with many non-seasoned cyclists in the group.

WGE’s Busselton office manager Richard Martin said the event had spruiked from a small number of riders to “getting bigger every year”, with a different charitable benefactor nominated each time.

“100 per cent of the funds go to the cause…(and) its good for team building and morale,” he said.
