Dunsborough Tennis Club has been named the most outstanding small club at the WA Tennis Industry Awards.

The award recognised the club’s inviting culture, accessibility and work to increase competitive opportunities for players.

The club, which is part of the Dunsborough Country Club, had 30 members in 2015 and has grown to boast more than 200 members.

Court upgrades, strategic planning, the installation of Tennis Australia’s Book-a-Court technology and additional coaching programs have been instrumental in ensuring the club’s growth.

Midweek and night social tennis, along with new coaching programs, including Cardio Tennis and group coaching lessons, have helped lift participation.

Dunsborough Tennis Club treasurer Michael Howes said the community-minded club was determined to future-proof itself for many years to come.

“This award is a testament to the hard work of our long standing volunteers together with the enthusiasm of the coaches and the tennis committee,” he said.

“It is because of the financial and motivational support received from our local authority - the City of Busselton and from Tennis Australia that our growth has been possible in such a short time.”

Dunsborough Country Club chairman Paul Moss thanked previous sub-committee members and coaching staff.

“The growth was thanks to everyone involved in developing tennis opportunities and programs as well as recent improvements to the tennis infrastructure,” he said

Tennis West CEO Michael Roberts said Dunsborough Tennis Club’s efforts had resulted in increased club activity and top performing juniors.
