Staff at Commonwealth Bank in Busselton swapped their uniforms for colourful clown costumes on Friday.

They were raising money for Clown Doctors, a charity dedicated to promoting and delivering the health benefits of humour.

Customers were asked to donate at the bank and branch manager Enza Merolla said staff aimed to raise $1000.

“The bank does this every year and every staff member contributes,” she said.

“The customers love it. They’re a bit surprised when they first see us, but everyone knows about Clown Doctors and thinks it’s a worthy cause.”

Ms Merolla said dressing up in clown costumes drew attention to a very worthy cause.

“It’s for sick kids who are in hospital. Their days are full of drips and blood and I think that laughter helps make them happy.

“Making these kids smile when they’re in hospital, sometimes a long way from home, is a very special thing. In fact, it’s what I want to do in my retirement.”
