Classic and modern carols in harmony

Cape Harmony Choir will perform Christmas classics next weekend across their two annual concerts.

Carols from the 15th century will feature alongside modern favourites. Members will perform chorus numbers alongside solos and duets.

Choir director Cornelius de Munck said the concert would stray from the standard Christmas carols.

“My philosophy is to not deal with hackneyed Christmas music — the stuff you hear in a supermarket — and look for something a bit unusual,” he said.

“The main thing people will enjoy are the choruses from Handel’s Messiah and we will finish with Hallelujah, a beautifully rousing piece.”

De Munck said the concert would feature several international carols from Spain, Germany and France.

The concert will be on December 9, from 2pm, at St Mary’s Family Centre and December 10, from 2pm, at the Catholic Church on Naturaliste Terrace.

Tickets cost $20 from Callows Newsagency in Busselton, Seachange Newsagency in Dunsborough or at the door, and include a mince pie and glass of port.
