Celebrating our midwives

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Clinical midwifery manager Haydee Cowper will join the “fantastic” midwives at Busselton Hospital and celebrate International Day of the Midwife tomorrow.

After practising as a nurse for many years, Mrs Cowper said she became a midwife to “do something different” and loved it immediately.

“Once I started midwifery, I never wanted to go back to being a nurse,” she said.

“It’s very holistic, you’re creating a family, you’re bringing a life into the world, and it’s a wonderful experience each time.”

Mrs Cowper said since moving to the area last year, she had been impressed with the “fantastic, women-focused” service of the midwives at Busselton Hospital.

She said International Day of the Midwife recognised the distinctive work of midwives and the important role they have in a child’s birth.

“You get to know (the family) and they get to know you. Women always remember their midwives,” she said.
