Carnival gives children more game time

Busselton's future football champions will battle it out against other juniors from the region at the South West Auskick Carnival at Bovell Park tomorrow.

There will be about 150 boys and girls in Years 2 and 3 from towns in the South West playing round robin matches against one another.

Busselton AFL Auskick Centre coordinator Troy Bennet said the carnival gave children a chance to play sides from Pemberton, Manjimup, Binningup and Bunbury.

It would also give them more game time compared to normal Auskick, Bennet said.

“Most of our session is taken up with skills,” he said. “They would love to be playing games all the time… if you ask them, kids just want to play games and kick goals.”

Bennet said although the centre had around 130 kids playing Auskick each week, the carnival’s older age limit meant they could only enter one team.

However, he encouraged other families to come along for a fun day and the chance to learn more about the sport.

The carnival runs from 10am to 1.30pm tomorrow, with players asked to arrive at the ground at 9.45am
