Cornerstone Christian College and Geographe Primary School have joined forces to try to get a manned crosswalk put in place on a popular route to the schools.

The schools want a manned crossing on Queen Elizabeth Avenue, near the Geographe Leisure Centre, and are encouraging students and families who walk to school to use the route so demand will be high enough.

Geographe Primary School principal Tim Baker said the road was a fairly busy one and a lot of students crossed it to get to the school.

He said some parents wouldn't let their children walk to school because of the road.

Cornerstone Christian College principal Bruce Douglas said the school was excited to work with Geographe Primary to find a safe crossing point.

Mr Douglas said the best way to get a manned crossing on Queen Elizabeth Avenue was to work with the primary school so both could benefit from the move.

Parent Ingrid Windsor said the spot identified was the safest point to cross and said it was necessary to get people to use that crossing instead of using the nearby roundabout.

The schools are now getting ready to submit an application for a manned crossing and are reminding families to use the cross point.
