Bypassing works start late

Work to remove seaweed from Port Geographe have started a week behind original plans.

Department of Transport project manager James Holder said contractors had been given an extra week to mobilise the site.

The works were originally expected to start last Monday and include the replenishment of sand at the development.

However, Mr Holder said the extra time had been factored into the mobilisation period and was not expected to delay the works overall.

Port Geographe Action Group chair Peter Maccora said residents would be pleased to see an end to the “disruption” seaweed trucking caused including sulphur dioxide smells and beach closures.

“It’s an inconvenience because now is the time people want to use the amenities,” Mr Maccora said.

He said he believed all of Busselton wanted to see a final resolution to the coastal issues at the development.

The works were expected to take seven weeks.
