It has been a year of big challenges for Margaret River’s Danielle Costley, who will tackle the New York City Marathon next month.

Mrs Costley will leave for New York next week ahead of the November 2 event and said she would arrive just in time.

She said after her completion of the Perth Marathon in 2007 — when she injured both knees — she had been eager to take part in another marathon.

“It’s going to be like I’m running at 10.30pm at night,” she said.

“For me, it’s just something I’ve done and I wanted to take it to the next level.”

Mrs Costley started training for the event in June and hopes it will take her about five hours.

She said her motto was just to cruise along.

Not only has the local mum been busy preparing for the race, she has also been working on a 200-page South West food trail guide which she was commissioned to do at the beginning of the year.

“It’s been huge because I’ve been doing a lot of travel,” she said.

“Some of the growers are up in Capel and Donnybrook.

“I’ve also got a little toddler and an eight-year-old.

“So it’s been crazy just juggling everything.”

The food trail guide is expected to be released at the Gourmet Escape next year.
