Busselton mayor nominated in government awards
City of Busselton Mayor Ian Stubbs has been nominated for a Local Government Honours Award, recognising his contribution to the local community.
Councillor Stubbs was awarded a Merit Award, presented at the WA Local Government Association annual general meeting on Thursday.
“The award came as a surprise, but I’m delighted to be receiving it,” he told the Times.
“I don’t work in local government expecting the recognition . . . and enjoy seeing the community get involved in shaping the future of the City.”
Cr Stubbs said despite being involved in the sector for 46 years, he was still enjoying it.
WALGA president Troy Pickard said the awards recognised community representatives for their willingness to get involved in their local communities.
“Elected members and officers often receive little praise for their efforts, and the personal time and commitment given by local government representatives is seldom publicly acknowledged,” he said.
