Busselton Jetty Swim: Cops team up

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Busselton Jetty Swim entrants and local cops Stuart Edwards and Jo Motion will take to the waters next Sunday in their first attempt at the event.

The couple decided to take part as a team of two as warm-up to the Ironman 70.3 later this year.

“We are only here for a set number of years, so we thought we better sign up to do it,” Motion told the Times.

She said despite only having prepared for the last month, she was confident they would be able to finish the swim.

“We’ve been going to the pool to train, but we’ve never really done ocean swimming before,” she said.

Motion hoped for some calm conditions next weekend after hearing stories from last year’s swimmers, who battled tough conditions.

The couple said they were also hoping to finish the swim for their 15-month-old daughter Ruby, who has Down syndrome.

“We just want to lead by example and show her she can do anything she puts her mind to,” Motion said. With only five days left to register, organisers said there were spots for only 35 teams of two and 31 four-person teams available.

Committee member Steve Crenfelt said 860 competitors had registered for the 2012 swim so far.
