Busselton duo have eyes on the prize

Busselton rally driver Leigh Hynes and co-driver Stuart Percival are poised to take the 2013 WA Rally Championship honours as they prepare for the penultimate event of the year.

The pair will battle the fast-flowing gravel roads around the old Grimwade town site near Balingup on Saturday, July 27, when they compete in the LRT Lewana Stages Rally.

The event will be another chance for the pair, who dominated the WARC so far this year, to leave the competition in their dust.

“We just work so well together,” Hynes said.

“I think Stu and I have a synchronicity that can only be matched by a few teams.”

The pair won in heat two of the Quit Forest Rally in April and took out the Trade Hire Donnelly Rally in May.

To top off their good form, they won the Experts Cup Rally in June, finishing more than two minutes clear of their nearest rivals.

Hynes and Percival, who were joint WARC champions in 2008 and 2011, said a combination of raw speed, consistency and understanding was key to their winning formula.

The LRT Lewana Stages starts at 1pm on Saturday, July 27, from Jim MacDonald Oval on South West Highway in Kirup.
