Busselton coach serves up enthusiasm

Busselton Tennis Club’s new coach has hit the ground running since landing on WA soil less than two months ago.

Luke Andrews swapped heading his own club in Livingston, Hampshire, for a new start he described as “too hard to turn down”.

The 31-year-old told the Times he had vast experience in coaching over a 10-year period and considered himself a good development coach with a passion for growing the perception of the game’s accessibility to everybody.

About 140 children aged between three and 16 years regularly attended a coaching program, while adult beginner classes had started twice a week, social tennis was offered on Friday nights and drop-in training was available on Wednesdays.

“The good thing about this club is they are really open – (people) can try it out, see if they like it and hopefully join later on,” he said.

The introduction of cardio tennis on Monday and Thursday nights had proved a popular addition, with the fun, fast sessions to music currently attracting up to 15 people per class.

“(It’s) really being pushed by Tennis Australia as an ideal way to start – it’s like a really fun gym class,” Andrews said.

“You can really play in different ways.”
