BRAT pack perform political piece

A group of talented young actors from Busselton are tackling a political masterpiece in their second show.

The Busselton Regional Arts Theatre Students are performing a stage version of George Orwell’s classic text Animal Farm later this month.

Director Kylie Bywaters said the Bare Naked Theatre’s youth group wanted to push the boundaries for their second production.

“It’s not the usual kind of show you would expect to see a youth theatre group doing. It’s very serious,” she said.

“It’s been cool seeing the kids work so hard on it. They’ve been really committed and professional about the whole thing.

“I think people will be impressed by the amount of effort they’ve all put in.”

Animal Farm will show at the Weld Theatre on August 17 and 31 at 7pm and August 18 and September 1 at 2pm.

There are 11 cast members aged between 9 and 17 in BRAT’s second production within the South West Academy of Performing Arts.

Co-producer Russell Chandler said Animal Farm was chosen specifically to challenge the children.

“There are some very strong messages and themes in the story which still resonate with audiences today,” he said.

“Some of the kids are exceptionally talented, so there are some really wonderful performances.”
