Boy-free cricket is to help girls

Busselton Dunsborough Times

A bid to cultivate female cricket players has prompted a six-week clinic to be held in Busselton by the West Australian Cricket Association and the Department of Sport and Recreation Regional cricket officer Orazio Santalucia said the winter program is a continuation of the summer clinic which drew 16 girls aged between eight-to-18.

“The introductory vehicle to cricket is a boy-free zone that is unintimidating and allows girls to develop at their own pace,” he said.

A Western Fury player is expected to visit the clinic and three Busselton girls currently play in the high performance under-15 division.

Mr Santalucia said he expects to run another clinic in summer with games to be played against Bunbury and Australind in 2013.

The training will be held on Friday afternoons at the Busselton Indoor Sports Centre beginning July 27.
