The Busselton Bombers say they will run out in tomorrow’s Onshore Cup grand final for club stalwart Leo Clifford.

Clifford died suddenly from a heart attack last week and was farewelled by the community yesterday.

Bombers coach Scott Tondut said the loss had “hit everyone pretty hard”.

“Leo was part of our club for a very long time; he was president, trainer and strapper this year, ” he said.

“He was obviously very excited by the progress of the season so far and excited about us hosting a grand final.

“We’re going out there to do it for him.”

The Dunsborough Yallingup Mulies also paid tribute to Clifford, describing him as a “fantastic person in football locally” and sending condolences to his family.

The stage is set for an emotional grand final tomorrow, when the Bombers, undefeated this season, host the Mulies, who have won 11 premierships in a row.

Tondut said the prospect of breaking their premiership drought was “massive”.

“I can see it in the boys’ eyes, they’re pretty determined, ” he said.

“But we’re not taking anything for granted. We’re wary we’re playing a good opposition as well.

“We realise we have to play our best footy.”

Mulies coach Trent Kelly said they would have a full-strength side going into the match after struggling with numbers this season. He was philosophical about their chances of continuing their premiership streak.

“Runs have got to come to an end. But we don’t want to be the guys the run ends for, ” he said.

“Obviously the one-point loss to the Bombers is a pretty good gauge of where we’re at. Whether we’ve got more room to improve we’ll find out on Saturday.”

The bounce is at 3pm at Bovell Park. Gates open at noon with a curtain raiser game to be played at 1pm between the Busselton Super Rules and Dunsborough Ducks.
