Bodyboarding: Craige's rising star

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Busselton bodyboarder Danny Craige was recognised as a rising star at the first event of the State Bodyboard Series over the weekend.

About 80 competitors took part in solid three-to-four foot conditions at Mandurah Wedge.

Craige was awarded the Reeflex Wetsuits Rising Star award for his second place in the under-18 junior men’s division and for his efforts in the semi-final, where he scored an unprecedented 17.5 out of a possible 20.

Craige challenged last year’s runner-up national junior champion Lewy Finnegan right to the end of the final, finishing ahead of Mandurah’s George Humphries and fellow Busselton bodyboarder Brady Devenny.

Big wave globetrotter Josh Garner beat multiple State and national title holders including Tom Fowler, Brendan Gabel and Ryan Hands on his way to winning the blue ribbon open men’s division.

Dunsborough’s Nathan Lotze finished first in the masters men’s division. Busselton’s Danny Craige in action at the WA Bodyboard Series at Mandurah Wedge.
